ArchiveConnect
Are the Macs in your company stopping you from adopting a file archiving system? . . . ArchiveConnect is the answer!
Learn how ArchiveConnect can unlock the benefits of file archiving including:
- Up to a 80% reduction in hardware storage costs
- Simplified administration and management through reductions in both the time and cost of performing file backups
- Increased user productivity through fast, self-service access to archived files
To gain the above benefits in a mixed Mac and Windows environment you need ArchiveConnect. Here’s why:
Many of the Mac’s advanced usability features, such as file previewing, Quick Look and Cover Flow all trigger mass recalls of archived files. These recalls put tremendous strain on both file servers and file archiving systems while leaving many more files online than were intended. This makes it nearly impossible to achieve the benefits offered by file archiving in a Macintosh environment. ArchiveConnect solves this problem with a light-weight Mac client that ensures that the Mac’s advanced usability features do not adversely affect archived files and cause unnecessary file recalls.
ArchiveConnect Feature Highlights
Protecting archived files
ArchiveConnect ensures that the Mac Finder does not attempt to preview archived files while browsing. Online files are still previewed while archived files are represented by standard file icon images.
Bring Online
Users can bring archived files back online by double-clicking on a stub or pointer file. Administrators can add extra steps to the “bring online” process by forcing users to right-click or control-click and explicitly select the Bring Online option.

Multi-select files and folders
The “Bring Online” feature can be performed on one or many files and folders. After selecting the files or folders, right-clicking and selecting Bring Online, ArchiveConnect will calculate the number of files and folders to recall and ask the user to confirm that they want to bring all of the selected files online.

Color Coded Archived Files
When used in conjunction with ExtremeZ-IP, archived files are color-coded so that users can quickly differentiate between online and archived files.

ArchiveConnect and ExtremeZ-IP: Better Together
Both ArchiveConnect and ExtremeZ-IP can be purchased separately; however together they provide a powerful solution for Macs operating within a Windows Server environment. ExtremeZ-IP is the leading Windows-based AFP file server that allows Macs to seamlessly access Windows file servers with blazingly fast file access, integrated single sign-on via Active Directory, and full support for Microsoft’s Distributed File System (DFS). ExtremeZ-IP also complements ArchiveConnect by color coding all archived files so that end-users can easily differentiate between online and archived files.
Together ArchiveConnect and ExtremeZ-IP ensure that Macs can access company file servers with the same ease as Windows computers without any worry of disrupting a company’s file archiving system.
