What's New in ExtremeZ-IP File Server?

ExtremeZ-IP File Server 5.1 is the latest release of Group Logic's robust Windows-based file server for Mac clients and is the only Windows-based server solution to properly support all releases of the operating system from Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X 10.5.

ExtremeZ-IP File Server delivers innovative, customer-centric solutions to Mac/Windows connectivity problems designed to simplify the process of finding and connecting to IT resources, extend flexibility to define and enforce file naming policies on the server, improve performance, increase manageability and monitoring options, expand file sharing configuration flexibility, deliver IPv6 compatibility, and improve client connection stability.

As the proven standard for file sharing between Mac desktops and Windows servers, ExtremeZ-IP is the most trusted solution for ensuring compatibility without compromise.

Simple Discovery of File Servers: Using ExtremeZ-IP Zidget™, users can browse for file servers through a simple Dashboard widget or web interface.

File Name Policy Enforcement: ExtremeZ-IP gives administrators the flexibility to define and enforce file name policies on their server. Policy enforcement results in better utilization of disk space by keeping files off the server that don't belong there; keeps files that break naming policies out of important workflows and delivers improved compatibility between Macs, Windows and other platforms all without Administrator intervention.

Highly Scalable: ExtremeZ-IP scales to significantly more users than any other AFP server solution on the market.

Optimized for Performance, Especially Under Load: Group Logic used its extensive knowledge of the unique behavior of Mac file sharing workflows, along with sophisticated caching strategies to deliver the best performance for Macs on the market.

Process More Commands, Consume Fewer Computing Resources: ExtremeZ-IP's new thread architecture and enhancements to its caching technology improve performance and scalability by processing more commands from clients while consuming fewer computing resources.

Support More Users, Free-Up Memory: The number of threads used by the product scales based on the workload, not the number of users, breaking the ~700 user limit on the server. This allows ExtremeZ-IP to support more users and also frees up memory for other uses.

IPv6 Compatible: Insures Mac compatibility and compliance with 2008 IPv6 mandate while maintaining a stable, compatible file sharing platform for Mac desktops.

ExtremeZ-IP remains the solution of choice for production workflows regardless of the number of Macs connected to the server.

ExtremeZ-IP 5.1 allows enterprises to leverage their existing technology investments to deliver increased value to users and simplify server management:

Simplify Management and Maintenance: ExtremeZ-IP integrates with leading monitoring tools including Windows PerfMon and Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM). ExtremeZ-IP enables administrators to use the tools they are most familiar with to easily monitor load, detect problems with shares and print queues, and diagnose performance bottlenecks.

Diagnose & Resolve Product Issues: With ExtremeZ-IP customers can effectively manage the solution with an increasing number of tools they can use to diagnose and resolve issues with the product and their internal systems.

Continued Tradition of Unparalleled Support: Group Logic's support department will have more tools to assist customers in diagnosing and resolving technical issues with the product and their systems. This will expand the quality of our already highly-regarded support team.

ExtremeZ-IP 5.1 is the only Windows server solution to ensure complete compatibility with all versions of Mac OS 9 - Mac OS X 10.5.

ExtremeZ-IP increases productivity by leveraging the latest Apple innovations on Windows servers and empowering Mac users to readily take advantage of Apple breakthroughs within the Windows server environment.

Reconnect Seamlessly: ExtremeZ-IP 5.1 now supports the innovative "Reconnect" facilities of the AFP protocol which allow a Mac that loses connectivity to the server to seamlessly reestablish connectivity, authentication, and all of its open fi les without data loss.

ExtremeZ-IP is the only AFP server besides Apple's XServe that supports this technology.

Migrate Easily: With the introduction of version 5.1, ExtremeZ-IP now offers a number of features to facilitate the migration from legacy SFM and SMB Client file-sharing workflows to ExtremeZ-IP without data loss. This includes migrating confusing and error prone "._" files from Mac OS X SMB Client and automatically importing shares from SFM.

Fully Supports Nested Volumes: With support for nested volumes some users can have access to an entire folder hierarchy while other users have access to a share point that contains a much smaller subset of the fi les.

Maintain Integrity: Unlike other solutions that create 2 files, like SMB, which can result in critical data loss if the files are separated, ExtremeZ-IP stores Mac information in the standard format used by Windows for Mac clients since Windows NT - never "locking in" customers to a proprietary format.

Fully Supports Unicode: ExtremeZ-IP is the only AFP server on Windows to fully support the Unicode capabilities of Mac OS X. These include user names, volume names, and messages that the administrator can send to the client.

Customers Say . . .
"When we were relying on the Services for Macintosh utility built into Windows, users experienced significant slow-downs when using the server... Users also reported that merely having the server mounted on their Macs would paralyze their computers for as long as a minute, several times a day. This problem went away when ExtremeZ-IP was installed."
